THE INTERCOLLEGIATE ENTREPRENEURSHIP FAIR
Our 11th and 12 graders participated in the Intercollegiate Entrepreneurship Fair which included students not only from Colegio Hebreo Union, but also from Humbolt and American School. Students presented their entrepreneurship projects focused on finding solutions to various problems they identified in life. We congratulate all the students for their great work and innovative proposals.
OUR SCHOOL DIRECTOR RECEIVES AN INVITATION FROM THE AMBASSADOR OF ISRAEL IN COLOMBIA
To celebrate its 71st Independence Day, the ambassador of Israel in Colombia, Marco Sermont, invited Colegio Hebreo Unión´s school director, Monica Recio, to participate in this important event.
In keeping with the Jewish calendar we celebrated Yom HaShoa, to honor and remember the victims of the Holocaust. We did this by lighting six candles for both the victims and survivors. It was a heartfelt ceremony where our students learned and understand how this travesty should never be repeated.
The high school students carried out this entrepreneurship project in which they acted as representatives of countries and mediators to address topics facing the world today and in the future. The theme for Action II was “Looking for innovative solutions to eradicate extreme poverty on a global level.”
High School celebrated Language Day with different recreational activities such as telling stories, singing songs, and having rallies and games.
LANGUAGE DAY - PRE-SCHOOL
In Pre-school we had “Radio CHU” as the theme throughout their Language Day celebration. They sang songs in English and Hebrew and read poems in Spanish, all to remember the importance of language, and its proper usage.
The Spanish Department had storyteller, Jamie De Avila, come and share stories with the students in honor of Language Day
THE 206TH BIRTHDAY OF OUR BELOVED BARRANQUILLA
For the 206th birthday of our beloved Barranquilla, the preschool children paid homage with billboards, songs and dressing up as characters from our beautiful city. They were visited by two outstanding Barranquilleros, Dr. Isaac Kuzmar, doctor and researcher, and Cardenio Fernández, who is part of the national swimming team. We thank them for sharing experiences with our students and motivating them to go far. We are CHU and we are proud to be Barranquilla!
BRITISH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL’S GAMES
In Barranquilla, Colombia schools from all over the country came to participate at the British International School’s Games from March 27 to 30th, among them was our Colegio Hebreo Union. We competed in the areas of basketball, baseball, soccer and volleyball. It was very exciting to see our students in new sporting arenas such as Sugar Baby Rojas, Moderno Football Stadium and Elías Chewin Arena.
It was especially exciting having our two volleyball teams, youth and high school, place in the competition of more than 40 schools. The youth team placed fourth and showcased the talent and abilities that exists here at CHU. The high school volleyball team did not fail to make us proud! Taking second place after an intense match, ending in the sets 2 to 1 with the final set score of 18-16. It was just two points that the German School won. Our CHU team fought hard and played with excellence.
Congratulations to our Volleyball Team for their athletic dedication and pride, once again they placed the CHU on the podium of the winners.
ENTREGA DE FAMILY BASKETS
Thanks to the initiative of the Grade Three students and their entrepreneurship project, Family Basket, many nonperishable goods were donated to the Centro de Desarrollo Comunitario Golda Meir. These students channel the goods through the social project of English Literacy of the Tenth Grade students. On the days on which the Colegio hebreo Unión students go to the barrio, they take the goods that the Third Grade students have donated.
On March XX, three third grade students accompanied the Sophomores to the Golda Meir Community Center.
Special thanks to the parents of Grade 3 for sending nonperishable goods!
PROJECT "CIRCUS"- SECOND GRADE
Our Second Grade students learned new vocabulary words about the different professions and community helpers in Hebrew. They identified the ones that can perform in a Circus and created their own as an Entrepeneurship project. They practiced the choreography of the Circus' acts during dance class and promote it with posters made by them. In Shirá they learned songs that could be part of the Circus. Parents and teachers were invited, they had to buy the entrance, which is going to be part of the Tzedaká. Our students were happy and motivated with this activity.
Color, music, happiness and traditions were lived in our CHU 2019 carnival. Toddlers through Grade Twelve students showed great dancing talent as they enjoyed our traditions.
SOCIAL STUDIES PROJECTS
Our children of Second Grade showed a great amount of excitement showing their Social Studies Projects, centered in “Countries Around the World”. Students were able to learn about different cultures, gastronomy and customs. At the same time Entrepreneurship abilities emerged by developing different products related to the countries around the world.
READING PROJECT "THE RIGHT DOG FOR THE RIGHT JOB"
As a fundamental part of our Reading Project, “The Right Dog for the Right Job” we received the pleasant visit of Samuel Martínez, who despite his visual disability has not let this stand in the way of challenges. Besides all his recognitions he was elected as REY MOMO of Barranquilla’s Carnival during the year 2017th.
Our Fourth Graders showed a lot of interest in hearing Samuel’s amazing stories.

This week, we began to collect the fruits of our labor related to the Entrepreneurship Campaign of our third grade students. Thanks to the generosity of the families and school staff we achieved a great result!
Every Wednesday, we will continue receiving contributions for our Family Basket to support the least-favored ones.
WE CELEBRATED THE LAUNCHING OF BERESHIT.
Due to the launching of the first Israeli spacecraft in the direction of the Moon our children made drawings about this historic event.
The girls’ volleyball team organized a Sports Day for students in Grades Two through Twelve. At the end of the school day the students enjoyed dynamic and entertaining activities that fostered their spirit for sports.
CRAETING RINGO WORKSHOP
Kindergarten through Grade 2 students participated in a workshop, creating Ringo; this activity was done in association with the Honorary Citizen Program, to foster responsibility in the children.
A group of Jewish children went to the Hajnasat Torá, it consisted in the signing and handing over of a Torá, a highly significant ceremony of the Jewish community that happens when there is a family accomplishment or an honor is rendered to important members of the community, as is the case of Abraham and Helena Minski. It was a wonderful experience for them.
Grandparents play an important role in their grandchildren's lives. The experience, love and affection they share with the kids are crucial in their character formation.
On February 1st, Preschool celebrated Grandparents Day with a journey through the seven continents to find the best grandpas. It was a magical show, full of lights and brightness performed by the youngest of our CHU.
SOCIAL WORK - 10TH AND 12TH GRADES
The Social Work performed by our 10th and 12th grade students is one of the most important activities in our school. They visited the Golda Meir Social Center in order to share activities and teach English to more than 30 children who attend this place daily. For a few hours, they stopped being students to become English teachers.
At the end, they shared a snack and went back to their homes with their hearts full of joy for their work.
We celebrated Tu Bishvat on January 21, a Jewish celebration in the Hebrew calendar, dedicated to nature. The word Tu Bishvat means the New Year of the Trees. It started when the first vegetation appeared in Israel. As a result, people went out to plant trees and eat fruits.

SEMANA DEPORTIVA 2018
The Sports Week was carried out with great success. Our students gave their best, showing the great comradeship that unites them. We will see you next year with the emotion of feeling one family, dressed in different colors.
LIGHT IN OUR PAGES, LIGHT IN OUR LIVES
For Hanukkah celebration, our children wrote books in English, Spanish and Hebrew, within the Project "Light in Our Pages, Light in Our Lives", which they exposed to the entire educational community; Some of the students read their writings during the festival.
Our young entrepreneurs exposed their business initiatives. They were very happy applying knowledge learned in the entrepreneurship class.
Within the activities programmed by the Counseling Department during the Antibullying Week, the students painted in a creative way, white t-shirts with an antibullying message: "It’s not cool be cruel".
MEETING WITH the 60'S, 70'S AND 80'S GRADUATES
A focus group composed by graduates from promotions 60 to 89, shared experiences and exchanged points of view with our Principal Ms. Mónica Recio. It was a pleasant meeting in which our alumni told us what they remembered about CHU and what they consider to be a fundamental pillar for our school.

En el marco de la Semana Antibullying, se coordinó la Escuela de Padres "Como formar hijos emocionalmente sanos?". Se contó con la participación de la Dra Olga Hoyos Ph.D., reconocida investigadora de la Universidad del Norte, quien ha venido desarrollando investigaciones y aportes sobre el tema de Bullying en nuestro medio.
Charla de emprendimiento
Los estudiantes de 10mo grado tuvieron la visita de Nutifit -Karina Pinilla, mamá emprendedora del CHU, quién vino a contarles su experiencia dentro del mercado de vida saludable, tema que lleva su proyecto en la asignatura de Emprendimiento.
OUTSTANDING PARTICIPATION IN BAMUN
Congratulations to the delegation that participated in BAMUN (Barranquilla Model United Nations - Marymount School). They obtained the following academic recognitions:

OUTSTANDING PARTICIPATION AT LICEO CERVANTES’ SWIMMING FESTIVAL
Our Preschool Swimming team won several medals in its category, at the Liceo de Cervantes´ School Swimming Festival.
Funcionarios da la empresa triple AAA dictaron charla sobre manejo y reciclaje de residuos sólidos
Interesados en el cuidado del medio ambiente, reciclaje y buen manejo de residuos sólidos, recibimos la visita de dos funcionarias de Triple A; quienes con dinámicas y actividades motivaron a nuestros niños a ser veedores del cuidado de sus espacios y aprender a reciclar.
Siembra de plantas donadas por KKL(Keren Kayemeth Leisrael)
Los estudiantes de 4A en clases de ciencias sembrando cada uno su planta, la cual fue donada por KKL(Keren Kayemeth Leisrael) institución de Jerusalem, que tiene por propósito enseñarles a ir creando un futuro sostenible. Esta actividad fué liderada por la señora Gabriela Alonso de Vainstein.
Charla "La sexualidad en la Infancia"
Con la presencia de la doctora Claudia Sánchez Salamanca, se llevó a cabo la charla "Cómo orientar y proteger a niños y niñas de 6 a 10 años ?", dentro del programa de formación a padres, ofrecido por Redpapaz, entidad a la que estamos vinculados.
Entrega de mercados a venezolanos desplazados
Durante el mes de septiembre, los estudiantes del Consejo Estudiantil, lideraron una campaña para recoger artículos para los hermanos venezolanos desplazados. El 28 de septiembre se entregaron 25 mercados a venezolanos ubicados en una zona de invasión en el barrio 7 de abril y se dejaron otros artículos en la parroquia Santa María Bernarda Bútler, cuyo párroco lidera acciones semanales en beneficio de ellos. Gracias al apoyo generoso de nuestras familias y el liderazgo de los estudiantes se lograron excelentes resultados en esta primera fase de la campaña.
